Promotional Poster Project

Doo dee doo. Lil break from the Tarot cards to finish this one. Project was to create a poster that would get people excited about the Art Department at CSUF if they saw it on the website or on the wall. Due to money reasons obviously, they won't be made into "real" posters. But hey.

I was stumped on something that wouldn't limit one department over the other. So I came up with the idea based on one of those old vintage printed travel posters one would see back like in the 20s-50s?

Tadas. Again, way out of my comfort zone.

Visual Development Project

Ah gawd, I had so much trouble with this project. I normally don't do backgrounds, and I struggle with environments period. So this was quite the challenge for me, and I'm still not sure if I'm completely happy with it.

Project was to design four environments based on the story of "Rumpelstiltskin" but we could change up the "genre" and style as much as we wish. I wasn't inspired much and suddenly was hit with the idea of a "small" world where the characters are based on insects. So, a wee bit fantasy/fairy stuff.

The style I just wanted something vaguely graphic and perhaps a bit childish/playful. Since I'm in no way, shape or form a digital, realistic painter!

Tarot Project 3 of 22

My personal project in Special Studies: design the 22 Major Arcana cards of a Tarot set, using original characters! Some characters belong to me, others from friends I have permission from.

I matched characters based on personality or what has happened in their life based on what each Tarot card represents. I will probably only do about 8 or 9 of these in class, the others will hopefully be continued over summer.

But here's the first three!

Anubis Gates Project

First project of Special Studies was to design images based on the book "The Anubis Gates" by Tim Powers. World is vaguely steampunk, magically, and old world London. I didn't read the book, I couldn't get into it, but managed to pick a few scenes and characters to work on.

We had free reign on what we wanted to do, so I picked a scene and the characters in it to design. Jacky, one of the main characters, is an aristocratic woman who cross-dresses as a beggar boy to try and find her husband's murderer. At one point, she's thrown in an underground tunnel, where two "creatures" reside. These creatures were once human, but were experimented on and left in the dark. So I figured they'd be pretty creepy and... unhealthy looking.

They're only referred to as "sisters" in the book. And not much to go on other than they wanted Jacky's eyes to see again. So, had to be blind creepy monster people right?

Some Old Colored Stuff

Some older colored works, mostly from sketches like those below. Again, all within the last year or so.

Some Old Sketchwork

Putting up some of my favorite old sketches (old as in within the past year) I've had sitting around. Some are grouped up in sketch dumps for the sake of space, others I liked enough to leave alone as they were.
